Desert landscapes are often environments of pure abstraction, where clarity, emptiness, and silence are both a physical and psychological experience. Painting in the desert has helped me to understand that abstraction and representation pervade my art in a permanent interplay, one always harbors characteristics of the other. In that place where the world drops away, I discover my endless source. The use of natural materials grounds my work in the weight of history. Materials are central to this inquiry. They are not just medium but physical archives of history and transformation. Raw discarded materials can also confront collective trauma; gold references the divine while lead reflects melancholy. I am inspired by anything to do with our planet. Art is like this dance of life, sometimes you must be firm and unyielding and at other times soft and compliant. It is my ritual, a type of consciousness that allows me to enter the cosmic space. There is no barrier between me and the work.
