Desert landscapes are often environments of pure abstraction, where clarity, emptiness, and silence are both a physical and psychological experience. Painting in the desert has helped me to understand that abstraction and representation pervade my art in a permanent interplay, one always harbors characteristics of the other. In that place where the world drops away, I discover my endless source. Material is central to this inquiry. Texture, paint, material all create surfaces that register resistance and permeability. I am inspired by anything to do with our planet. Working with natural materials is like this dance of life, sometimes you must be firm and unyielding and at other times soft, yielding and compliant. Art is become a ritual, a type of consciousness that allows me to enter the cosmic space. There is no barrier between me and the work.
